This may require the horse needing vitamin injections on a regular basis or adding two to four ounces of baking soda to their rations. Access to salt and fresh water at all times can also help decrease the chances of the disorder or minimize the symptoms. For cases of azoturia, it is important that owners seek veterinarian care for their animal. Together, a decision can be made on the best treatment options for the horse.

Full Article:
Azoturia in Horses

Goat Breed Facts - Pygora

The Pygora is a small yet muscular goat breed that is generally bred for the fiber but can be also kept as pets. Owners warn not to scold their Cairns for bringing home a prize from their hunt, it's comparable to punishing a cat for purring. Angora rabbits and other long-haired breeds are susceptible to hairballs. A high-fiber diet can also aid with the passing of hair through a rabbit's system. Rabbits are unable to vomit and cough up hairballs so there is only one other alternative to pass these bits of hair. When the hair builds up in the intestines, it can block the intestines leading to "wool block". If treatments do not help the hairball pass through the system, a veterinarian may need to remove the blockage surgically. Surgical procedures in rabbits are dangerous and can also lead to the death of the rabbit.

Most importantly, owners should watch for any changes in their rabbit's eating and bathroom habits. Start home treatments promptly at the first signs of constipation. If the rabbit has not had a bowel movement within 24 hours or is showing any signs of stress, seek care from a qualified rabbit veterinarian immediately.

Full Article:
Constipation in Rabbits

Homemade Cardboard Box Playhouse for Cats

You will find that your cat will not only enjoy hiding and playing in their playhouse but you may find them taking an afternoon snooze in their den. Several myths have surrounded this breed including they are hypo-allergenic and they do not shed. A Devon Rex will shed like any animal that has fur but it is far less than long-haired breeds. Some individuals who have allergies to cats can tolerate the Devon Rex but this depends upon the allergy. Those with cat allergies should arrange to handle a Devon Rex before purchasing one to forego any surprises. Due to their short coat, this breed should be kept indoors especially during the winter months.

The cost of a Devon Rex varies depending upon its lineage but prices typically start around $800. This breed is extremely popular for the show ring and as a faithful companion. At one time, it was not uncommon for roosters to be caponized (castrated) so they would grow to enormous sizes - up to 20 pounds. This dual purpose bird excels as a meat bird but is not popular as a commercial broiler due to its poor feed-to-meat conversion. For meat production, these birds typically reach harvestable size at about eight to nine months of age. Due to their large frame, the Jersey Giant is often used as a roasting bird. The hens produce very large brown eggs and tend to not only lay more eggs than other breeds, they also tend to have a longer laying season.

Full Article:
Poultry Breed: Jersey Giant

Poultry Breed Facts: Buckeye

The Buckeye is a dual-purpose bird created by crossing Barred Plymouth Rock hens with a Buff Cochin rooster. However, it is recommended that a guinea pig should be supplemented with fresh fruits, vegetables, timothy hay, and obviously fresh water. A quality pellet should contain 16 to 20 percent protein and 16 percent fiber and should be designed for guinea pigs. Pellets that are labeled for guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits most generally do not contain vitamin C and can also be supplemented with other substances that may not be safe for a guinea pig.
