Standing at an average of forty-six inches, the American Shetland Pony is hardy, sure-footed and usually the choice as a child's first horse. The height limit for registered Shetlands has changed over the years. For the United States the maximum height is forty-six inches and in Canada it is forty-four inches. The height has remained unchanged in Great Britain and is still forty-two inches.
