As the owner of a beautiful Black and Tan Coonhound, I can verify that most of what is put forward about their temperament and intelligence is completely accurate. With a stern leader and proper training, the Black and Tan is very obedient and yet as they get older, they are intelligent enough to learn from past experiences. They are very quick to catch on to what they are being taught but they use that intelligence to be a bit sneaky. They are quite active but when they sleep, they are out like a light.
