If a dog’s diet has been changed quickly, this can cause an upset stomach. Table scraps and sneaking into the garbage are also prime suspects for vomiting. Once the culprit has been found, be sure that the problem is removed from the dog’s environment.

Constipation in Rabbits - Causes, Signs, and Treatments

Regular grooming can help limit the amount of hair that a rabbit ingests. Angora rabbits and other long-haired breeds are susceptible to hairballs. A high-fiber diet can also aid with the passing of hair through a rabbit's system. Rabbits are unable to vomit and cough up hairballs so there is only one other alternative to pass these bits of hair. When the hair builds up in the intestines, it can block the intestines leading to "wool block". If treatments do not help the hairball pass through the system, a veterinarian may need to remove the blockage surgically. Surgical procedures in rabbits are dangerous and can also lead to the death of the rabbit.

Most importantly, owners should watch for any changes in their rabbit's eating and bathroom habits. Start home treatments promptly at the first signs of constipation. If the rabbit has not had a bowel movement within 24 hours or is showing any signs of stress, seek care from a qualified rabbit veterinarian immediately.

Website Review - Rabbitweb.net

Overall, Rabbitweb.net is a clean and uncluttered site with very little advertising. There is a community board available for rabbit enthusiasts to gather and discuss everything rabbits including health care or just simply sharing pictures of your bunnies. For breeders and showing information, this site offers useful information but for a rabbit website, I was disappointed in the lack of care information especially for those of us who own house rabbits.

How to Breed Rabbits

Although artificial insemination is available for rabbits, the natural method is the most commonly used. Brothers and sisters should not be mated and unless you are breeding for meat production, you should breed only rabbits of the same breed. Unless the ancestry is the same for at least four generations, the rabbits cannot be sold as pedigree breeds.

Rabbits with genetic disorders such as malocclusion should not be bred. If you are starting a breeding program, you will need to keep breeding records of your rabbits. It is highly recommended that if you do not want to have rabbits as a business then do not allow your rabbits to breed. If you are interested in having several rabbits as simple pets, there are many available for adoption at animal shelters across the country.

What to feed a pet Guinea Pig

The diet of domesticated guinea pigs is easily maintained due in part to quality commercial pellets available in most stores. However, it is recommended that a guinea pig should be supplemented with fresh fruits, vegetables, timothy hay, and obviously fresh water. A quality pellet should contain 16 to 20 percent protein and 16 percent fiber and should be designed for guinea pigs. Pellets that are labeled for guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits most generally do not contain vitamin C and can also be supplemented with other substances that may not be safe for a guinea pig. An adult guinea pig needs a minimum of 15 milligrams of vitamin C daily but may need more depending upon their health issues.

Primate Behaviors and Characteristics

The most common threat to primates is other primates, specifically humans. There are several species that have become endangered including the golden lion tamarin and the gorilla. Some types of monkeys are hunted and consumed in countries like West Africa and South America. Most researchers believe that until the most populous of primates (humans) begin to conserve the environment and wildlife habitats, other species of primates will ultimately not be able to survive in the wild or will become extinct.

Hedgehog Obesity

The weight of an adult hedgehog should average 10 to 20 ounces. Owners typically weigh their pets every two weeks to be certain that their companion is not under or over the recommended weight. Dry cat food is the most common type of commercial food fed to a pet hedgehog. It is important to provide a high-quality but low-fat formulated cat food to a hedgehog. These foods that are lower in fat content may be labeled as a "maintenance" formula. One tablespoon of dry food each day is the average amount of food to feed a pet hedgehog. By weighing the hedgehog on a regular basis, owners will know if the amount should be lowered or increased depending upon the weight of their pet.

However, treponematosis is not transferable to other animals including humans. This disease resembles hutch burn as it also forms sores in the genital and rectal area that can scab over. A veterinarian can perform tests to diagnose if a rabbit is suffering from treponematosis.
