The Cottontail Rabbit

The Cottontail rabbit derives its name from their "cotton ball" tuft tail. The Eastern Cottontail rabbits are the most common however there are several species of Cottontails that range from North America to South America. The coat color of Cottontails varies from a rusty-brown to gray but all have that distinctive cottontail for which they are known.
