Ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) are very small parasites that are the most common cause of inflammations of the outer ear in cats. These parasites are highly contagious between cats and can be spread from cats to other animals including dogs. Ear mites can be found on the skin inside the ear canal and will feed on tissue, fluids and skin found in the ear.
