Breed Profile - Clydesdale Horse

Highly recognizable in the United States as the breed used as the Budweiser horse team, the Clydesdale horse is a heavy draft horse originating from Scotland. The pride of Scotland, these grand horses get their name from the Clyde River from which they are native.

Dating back to the eighteenth century, native mares were bred with imported Flemish stallions to build up the weight and stature of foals. This heavy-duty breed was desired for farming and hauling large loads of local commodities like coal.
