The Rocky Mountain Horse is an official breed that differs from other mountain horse breeds. The short history of this rare breed is founded on a stallion named Tobe who was owned by Sam Tuttle of Sprout Springs, Kentucky. The Rocky Mountain Horse did not originate from the Rocky Mountains but Old Tobe is said to be sired from a stud from Colorado.
