If unusual is what you want in a pet then the Tokay gecko could be just what you are looking for. That is if you don't mind being awakened in the wee morning by the screech of "To-kay, To-kay" and prying them from your knuckles when they show their bad side.
These unique creatures are native to Southeast Asia and are nocturnal. While fairly easy to maintain, they do have their disadvantages which include the two I have already pointed out which are noisy nightly "barking" and biting. That old saying "the bark is worse than the bite" holds true with this gecko since the biting can be controlled simply by not handling it. However, the barking cannot be controlled unless you have a space far away from where you slumber.
