Tyzzer's disease can affect a wide variety of animals and has been recorded in countries worldwide. The spores from these bacteria alone can survive for years in our environment. This deadly bacterial infection is highly contagious and has killed off colonies of muskrats in the United States and Canada. Tyzzer's disease primarily affects animals that are young, stressed, overcrowded, living in humid climates, infected with parasites, malnourished, living in poor conditions or a combination of these factors.
